What is Theotokos Junior Academy?

Theotokos Junior Academy is an online Coptic Orthodox educational program for middle and high school students, operating under Holy Sophia University. Our goal is to help students grow in their understanding of Scripture, the Orthodox faith, and Christian character in a structured, engaging, and age-appropriate way.

What grades can participate?

Currently, the program is open to:

  • Middle School

  • High School

Age groups are separated, and all activities are supervised and moderated (with exceptions if needed).

How is this different from church Bible study?

Theotokos Junior Academy does not replace parish Bible study.

Instead, it:

  • Offers structured, curriculum-based learning

  • Provides consistent Orthodox teaching across all regions

  • Creates an academic-style environment similar to Bible competitions

  • Supports families and churches with high-quality resources

Students are encouraged to remain active in their parish life.

How does the program work?

The program is

  • Fully online

  • Self-paced weekly with clear deadlines

  • Includes reading materials, quizzes, and guided discussions

  • Includes one live final event (details shared in advance)

There are no regular live classes or recorded sessions.

Is this program officially Orthodox?

Yes. The Academy operates under Holy Sophia University, with oversight from:

  • Theotokos Junior Academy Board

  • The University Director (Priest)

  • The Bishop overseeing the University

All content is rooted in the Coptic Orthodox faith.

How will my child communicate with servants?

Communication is designed with safeguarding in mind:

  • No one-on-one private messaging

  • Questions are submitted publicly or through monitored group channels

  • Multiple servants oversee all communication

  • Parents are copied on official communications

Yes. Parents will:

  • Receive weekly summaries

  • Be copied on official communications

  • Have access to course materials and discussion boards

  • Have the right to withdraw their child at any time

Yes. The Academy offers Orthodox-centered prizes, including a Certificate of Completion, cash prizes, and other meaningful rewards to encourage engagement, excellence, and spiritual growth.
